John Urry

Like the pilgrim the tourist moves from a familiar place to a far place and then returns to the familiar place. At the far place both the pilgrim and tourist engage in ‘worship’ of shrines which are sacred, albeit in different ways, and as a result gain some kind of uplifting experience.
